Glencoe, MN

Glencoe is a city in McLeod County, Minnesota. It is the county seat of McLeod County. U.S. Route 212 and Minnesota State Highway 22 are two of the main routes in the community. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.7 square miles (6.9 km²), all of it land. The elevation is 997 ft (304 m) above sea level.

GLENCOE Township received the name of its village, founded on June 11, 1855. It was chosen by Martin McLeod, for whom this county was named and who was a member of the townsite company. The city in sections 13, 14, and 33 was incorporated in 1873 and adopted its charter as a city March 4, 1909. From the beginning of the county, it has been continuously the county seat; it has had a post office since 1856. The city boomed when the Hastings and Dakota Railway came in 1872, followed by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, changing from a small settlement to a trade center. John Harrington Stevens is considered the founder.
